These are Yield Triangles and can be found at intersections around the world. I first saw them at Roundabouts in Norway and had to double check which side of the road people drove on. My first interpretation was they were there to guide people into their lane while exiting the roundabout. I blame this train of thought on my lack of experience with Europian Roads. Even if Yield Triangles are obvious to most people that see them could you make them intuitive to everyone? I started playing around with the design looking for ways to negate the direction of the triangles while maintaining the yield symbolism.
I started with mirroring the line of triangles, point-to-point, under the original ones.

This design just made them look like sharp teeth, and more like their other name, "Shark's Teeth".

This design just made them look like sharp teeth, and more like their other name, "Shark's Teeth" but that's probably not a good thing.
Cutting the triangles out of a solid rectangle makes the line more visible but the triangles may be harder to see and can still look menacing.

The grinning imagery is even more apparent when you stagger the triangles

I also tried adding a horizontal line under the line of triangles but that may not reduce the directionality of the arrows.

My next idea was to add vertical lines under each of the triangles. This may just be adding shapes that don't help anything.

This design gave me the idea to use negative space though.
With the next two, I used the space between the triangles to make larger arrows.

I like the visuals of these but I'm not sure if drivers would see the yield or the arrows while in motion. This design gave me the idea to use negative space though.

This seems like the best option but the large triangle may draw too much attention from the smaller ones.
The Yield Triangles are a great visual cue of the traffic laws, but if you are not familiar with the symbolism it can be confusing. My goal for this experimentation was to maintain the Yield Symbolism but reduce the association with arrows pointing against traffic.
